Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with Brentford to appoint Thomas Frank as their new head coach, according to widespread reports on Thursday. The move comes just over a week after Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou, despite his recent Europa League triumph.
Negotiations initially focused on Frank’s existing Brentford contract and potential backroom staff arrangements. The 51-year-old Dane, who had a £10 million release clause in his Brentford deal (set to expire in 2027), is now poised to take charge at Tottenham.
Frank earned plaudits for guiding Brentford to Premier League promotion in 2021 after a 74-year absence and establishing them as a top-flight mainstay. His arrival at Spurs comes as the club prepares for Champions League football next season – secured through their Europa League victory over Manchester United.
Postecoglou’s dismissal followed a dismal domestic campaign that saw Tottenham finish 17th. Frank, who began his coaching career with Denmark’s youth teams before managing Brøndby, joined Brentford as an assistant in 2016. He took the top job in 2018, eventually securing promotion after playoff heartbreak in 2020.
Despite regularly selling key players, Frank maintained Brentford’s Premier League status with mid-table finishes, showcasing his ability to build competitive teams on a budget.
